Group Leader Training


An Interactive IFS Group incorporates IFS and capacities into what is a combination process and interpersonal group. Group members work on their relationships with each other with honesty and vulnerability. They learn how to speak for their parts and how to practice assertiveness, sensitivity, and other capacities. They become open and deeply connected, leading to inner transformation.

In this course, you are trained in how to lead an Interactive IFS Group. This includes didactic presentations about principles and techniques of group leading. The training group also functions as an Interactive IFS Group, so you experience what it is like to be a member of this kind of group. The training is limited to 8 people, so you have a first-hand opportunity to do personal group work with me.

We learn by reflecting on what happened in the group, how I led it, and the interventions I used. We relate your personal experience to the model of Interactive IFS Groups that I am developing.

The Institute has a long waiting list of people who want to join an interactive IFS group, so you might be able to lead a group under the Institute as part of your training and then continue with it once you are certified. I have been leading Interactive Groups for 40 years. I wrote Interactive Group Therapy 25 years ago. I am writing a new book now which incorporates IFS and quite a few other innovations of mine in group leading since it was originally written. You will receive this material as I develop it. I have been teaching experiential courses on IFS for 20 years.

Since Interactive IFS Groups can be either therapy groups or personal growth groups, you don't have to be a therapist to take this training.

Course Logistics

  • Prerequisite: Some experiential knowledge of IFS. 
  • The group is limited to 8 members.
  • Course meets online twice a month, on Zoom, for 2 1/2 hours
  • Course runs for 16 sessions.
  • Tuition is $2000.00.
  • Recordings of each session will be available on a page for your group. 
  • I will interview you before the course so you understand what is involved and to see if it is appropriate for you.
  • If you complete the training, you will receive a certificate of attendance.
  • I may be able to help your practice by referring people to your groups. A few people may lead groups through the Interactive Group Institute.
